The asterisk * that is placed next to the name of the attorney* and next to the phrase "Criminal Law Specialist* is to show that this attorney is legally certified by the California State Bar as a Criminal Law Specialist.

       In order to be certified, a criminal law attorney must be able to practice law in California, evaluated by his peers, complete a number of hours in the study of criminal law and must be experienced in the criminal proceedings, as per required by the State Board of California Board of Legal Specialization.
